Hi
I wrote a database in version 4.2, way back in 1994 (which believe it or not is still in use). I would like to upgrade this database to version 7.2. Before purchasing this, could somebody please advise me the steps required to migrate the database incl forms, procedures etc. from 4.2 to 7.2?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bill,
It isn't as straight forward as one would hope it to be when moving from DOS to Windows. My recommendation would be to contact Sapphire or one of the consultants out there for help.

I would wait to see how LegEasy will pan out. I have a number of 4.53 apps running in WinXP DOS windows and a re-write in 7.2 would mean a lot of re-learning and frustrating work. If LegEasy does not address my requirements I will run the apps in a virtual DOS using Virtual PC which is now a free Microsoft option. Having used DataEase since DataMaster I have stuck with DataEase DOS and left those DEforWindows headaches behind long ago. Be patient a little longer

Incidentally, about a year ago, one company using one of my applications, now nearly 20 years old, was asked by Sapphire if he would like a quote to re-write the system for him to run in Windows. We sent the database to them and they said they could not recommend doing a re-write as it would cost around £36,000. This shows how much work would be needed to convert and one would need to have very extreme reasons to change.
